Tyler Perry’s The Gospel of Christmas Is Coming to Netflix in 2026

Netflix is adding a very different kind of festive film to its 2026 Christmas line-up, as Tyler Perry brings together family, faith, community and an extraordinary cast of gospel music stars

Netflix has confirmed a brand-new Tyler Perry Christmas movie for 2026 — and this one looks set to offer something a little different from the usual festive rom-com.

Tyler Perry’s The Gospel of Christmas is coming to Netflix later this year, telling the story of a struggling pastor who inherits his family’s church in a troubled New York neighbourhood.

With Christmas approaching, he finds himself fighting not only to save the church, but also his family and the wider community around him.

According to Netflix, the pastor faces doubt, temptation and a “sinister adversary” along the way, forcing him to rediscover his faith and the power of prayer before it is too late.

A huge line-up of gospel stars

Perhaps the most exciting part of the announcement is the cast.

The Gospel of Christmas will feature Fantasia Barrino, who earned widespread acclaim for her performance as Celie in The Color Purple, alongside R&B singer Tank.

They'll be joined by an impressive collection of some of the biggest names in gospel music, including Shirley Caesar, Fred Hammond, The Clark Sisters, Smokie Norful, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Ann Nesby, Yolanda Adams, Hezekiah Walker and Jekalyn Carr.

With so many celebrated singers involved, music looks likely to play an important role in the film, although Netflix has yet to reveal exactly how heavily the story will lean into its musical elements.

Tyler Perry is directing the movie as part of his continuing relationship with Netflix.

Something different for Christmas 2026

While streaming services release plenty of light-hearted romances during November and December, The Gospel of Christmas appears to be heading in a different direction.

Its story centres on faith, family and a community coming together at Christmas, with the church at the heart of the film.

That could make it particularly appealing to viewers looking for a Christmas movie with a more traditional message behind it.

And with its remarkable collection of gospel performers, there should be plenty of opportunity for some memorable Christmas musical moments too.

When will The Gospel of Christmas be released?

Netflix has confirmed The Gospel of Christmas for 2026, but an exact release date has not yet been announced.

The film appears on Netflix's official 2026 movie slate alongside several other new festive films, including A Dog's Perfect Christmas and In a Holidaze.

With Christmas now getting closer, we should hopefully get our first proper look at The Gospel of Christmas — including images, a trailer and a release date — over the coming weeks.

For now, though, this is definitely one to add to the growing list of new Christmas movies to watch in 2026.
