What do we know so far about Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol?
Well, this is not your typical cosy Christmas movie.
A brand-new adaptation of A Christmas Carol is on the way — but this time, the beloved Christmas story is taking a much darker turn.
Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol is an upcoming gothic reimagining of Charles Dickens’ legendary festive tale, directed by horror filmmaker Ti West. Known for his unsettling psychological horror style, West appears to be transforming the traditional Christmas ghost story into something far more sinister and emotionally intense.
Johnny Depp is set to star as Ebenezer Scrooge, with Ian McKellen appearing as Scrooge’s haunting former business partner, Jacob Marley.
The three spirits guiding Scrooge through the night will reportedly be played by Andrea Riseborough, Tramell Tillman and Robert Strange as the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future.
The supporting cast also includes Rupert Grint as Bob Cratchit and Sam Claflin as Fred, Scrooge’s optimistic nephew.
Unlike many previous adaptations that focused heavily on festive warmth and redemption, this version is expected to lean far more into psychological horror, supernatural suspense, grief and regret — potentially making it one of the darkest interpretations of A Christmas Carol ever brought to the big screen.
And honestly, when you think about it, Dickens’ original story has always had horror elements at its core. Ghostly warnings, disturbing visions of the future and a lonely man psychologically unraveling overnight already feel perfectly suited to a gothic horror adaptation.
Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol is currently scheduled to release in cinemas on November 13th, 2026.
