A brand-new sequel to How the Grinch Stole Christmas is reportedly in development, with Jim Carrey in talks to return as the iconic green Christmas-hating grump that stole hearts around the world.
According to reports, the project would serve as a direct follow-up to the beloved 2000 holiday classic, which became one of the most popular Christmas movies of all time. Ron Howard, who directed the original film, is also reportedly expected to return alongside producer Brian Grazer.
While official plot details are being kept tightly under wraps, the thought of revisiting Whoville with Jim Carrey back in the role has already sent Christmas movie fans into a frenzy.
The original film remains a festive favourite every holiday season, thanks to its memorable quotes, stunning Christmas visuals and Carrey's unforgettable performance as the Grinch. More than 25 years later, it continues to be a must-watch for families around the world.
Interestingly, Carrey previously revealed just how challenging the extensive Grinch makeup process was during filming. However, advances in technology could make a return far more achievable today, potentially allowing the character to be brought to life in new ways while retaining the magic fans remember.
At this stage, the sequel is still reported to be in development, meaning nothing has been officially confirmed. However, if the project moves forward, it could become one of the biggest Christmas movie events in years.
