Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, revealing Depp's dramatic transformation into Charles Dickens' iconic miser. The trailer, which premiered just hours ago, offers an atmospheric first glimpse at what looks set to be one of this year's biggest festive movie releases.

The film takes a much darker approach than many previous adaptations of A Christmas Carol. Rather than focusing on the family-friendly side of the story, Ebenezer leans heavily into the ghostly, supernatural elements of Dickens' original novel, creating a haunting Victorian setting filled with eerie spirits, snow-covered streets and gothic imagery.

Johnny Depp is almost unrecognisable beneath extensive ageing makeup and prosthetics, bringing a grizzled, hardened Scrooge to life. The trailer features plenty of familiar moments from the classic tale while hinting at a fresh, more unsettling interpretation of the beloved Christmas story.

Directed by horror filmmaker Ti West, the movie also boasts an impressive supporting cast including Ian McKellen as Jacob Marley, Rupert Grint as Bob Cratchit, Andrea Riseborough as the Ghost of Christmas Past, Tramell Tillman as the Ghost of Christmas Present, alongside Daisy Ridley and Sam Claflin.

The release of the trailer follows Johnny Depp's surprise appearance at San Diego Comic-Con, where he arrived in full Scrooge costume to introduce the film and delight fans attending the event.

Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol is scheduled to arrive exclusively in cinemas on 13 November 2026, giving audiences plenty of time to get into the Christmas spirit.
