The new Christmas movie will begin streaming on Disney+ from 4 December 2026 and is based on Jeff Kinney’s hugely popular Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series.
In the film, Greg Heffley is gearing up for the holidays when the Heffley family makes a last-minute decision to swap Christmas at home for an all-inclusive island vacation. What sounds like the perfect festive escape soon turns into another chaotic Greg Heffley misadventure, with plenty of mishaps along the way.
According to Disney, the voice cast includes Jacob Isaac Peterson as Greg, Chris Diamantopoulos as Frank, Erica Cerra as Susan, Hunter Dillon as Rodrick, Gracen Newton as Manny, Jude Zarzaur as Rowley, Fred Armisen, Beau Bridges, Jeff Hiller and Keyla Monterroso Mejia.
The film is directed by Matt Danner, while Jeff Kinney wrote and produced the movie.
With its sunny island setting, family chaos and festive release date, Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas: The Getaway looks set to be a fun new option for families looking for something Christmassy to watch in December.
Will this be one of the must-watch Christmas movies of 2026?
